Hello world!
April 15, 2008 by testonThe Real Housewives of New York
January 21, 2008 by testonBravo, home of some our favorite reality shows( Project Runway,Top Chef) has delighted us with the news that there will some new Housewives in town. That’s right folks on March 4, Bravo will be unveiling their newest show “The Real Housewives of New York” a spin-off of their hit show “The Real Housewives of Orange County”. Now there will be a set of Housewives on each coast.
Although the New York housewives ( and one Cobble Hill Brooklyn resident) claimed in New York’s Daily News that they want to be different than their west coast counterparts, we hope they have the same great fashion sense. Their careers alone (including visual merchandising, a cable show host and a health food chef) promise great wardrobes and exciting stylish events! Stay tuned to watch the drama unfold on the upper East Side- and shop all the looks you love from your OC Housewives!
American Idol: No Freak Like a Middle-Aged Freak
January 17, 2008 by teston
There have been a few changes to American Idol’s audition shows from the previous seasons. It’s more obvious who’s going to get past the first Hollywood round, because they do things like put together montages of their families and so forth. They start with someone worthy of the golden ticket and follow with a balance of losers and winners. And they keep showing us the people who are too old to try out but bring a bit of the mandatory freakiness with them.
Tuesday’s ineligible freak was a 39-year-old social worker with a desire to get his original song out on the radio to convince kids not to have sex before marriage (after hearing it, if I were a teenager, I’d go have a horizontal chat with a football team for spite). Last night, we were treated to the sight of 44-year-old Renaldo Lapuz. Wearing a feathered pimp hat, silver and feathered cape and white suit, he regaled the judges with an original composition that ran for only four lines. Despite being that short, he ended up with over five minutes of screen time. Paula started singing along. She started dancing along. She got up from behind the table to dance next to Renaldo. Randy joined her. Simon couldn’t stop laughing long enough to do anything else. And then Ryan got hauled in to join the party. What do you want to bet Renaldo showed up at about 8 PM on the last day of auditions?
Aside from him, however, the freak parade was kind of dull. The guy who was enjoying the new breezes he was feeling thanks to wearing a dress was worth a giggle, but Dallas just wasn’t as crazy as Philadelphia. But the compensation of an auditioner going into labor and giving the kid the second middle name of Idol was almost enough to make up for it. And I have to admit, the infant cap with the AI logo? Priceless (for now… the store’s just getting revved up). I do wish they’d shown us her audition.
Project Runway 408: ” On Garde!”
January 17, 2008 by testonLast night’s elimination on Project Runway of Christina Scarbo, known as “Kit Pistol”, was not a surprise but still disappointing nonetheless. Looking at what she’s done for previous collections for her Kit Pistol label I know she has a tremendous amount of talent and I would have loved to see her looks traipse down the catwalk at Bryant Park. Still, with her Little house on the Prairie look in contrast with the high end look of other teams like Chris and Christian she didn’t have a chance.
I loved the winning look by Chris and Christian, aka “Team Fierce” as Christian dubbed them, and felt that finally Chris was at the top of his game in a challenge where he could use his costume background. I even like the ready-to-wear outfit even with the skirt that Tim Gunn called “cheap’ and Michael claimed was a “throw away look”.
If anyone watched the audition video with Jillian it should come as no surprise that she showed a trench look (very Alexander McQueen). Surprisingly though she and Victorya both have very strong personalties they worked well together. This is more than I can say for Rami, one of my favorites from the start, who showed more of his darker side (pushing Sweet P . and making her cry). I’m glad she got vengeance when the judges dissed his look and gave Sweet P. kudos on her dress.
I can’t wait to see what’s behind the door of the wherehouse for next week’s episode. I’m also curious to see how much fans will bid on the avant-garde look from “Team Fierce” in the exclusive Project Runway auction. American Idol: The Princess and the Loser
January 16, 2008 by teston
Ladies, gentlemen, and everybody who kept Sanjaya in the competition, welcome back to American Idol’s audition phase. Or as I affectionately call it, Hell Month. I used to deliberately avoid it because I knew the bad singing would make my ears hurt. Now, it’s the necessary pain before the pleasure of watching the final batch of hopefully competent people make their way to the top. After last season, I have to add the “hopefully.” I just know someone who would’ve made a better Idol than Jordin Sparks got the boot in Hollywood due to a bad day at the wrong moment.
On the topic of getting to Hollywood, in case anyone at home hasn’t figured this out yet, there are people who act as gatekeepers for Paula, Simon and Randy. Which means they are deliberately inflicting the head cases on them for the sake of the cameras. This also gets us some of the neater stories, though, like Joey Catalano and his 200-lb weight loss. Also Temptress Brown the linebacker. She managed to be my favorite person who’s failed to advance ever.
I can’t leave the head cases unmentioned, though touching on all of them would destroy too much of my sanity. I think Ryan Seacrest has selective amnesia when it comes to the worst tantrum ever, as last season featured a large woman in lame who raged far more effectively than last night’s golden child. For sheer editorial cattiness, I have to give props to how they handled “Princess Leia.” Meaning I have to mention her. The kind of sci-fi geek that gives the entire crowd a bad name with an ego the size of the Death Star, her “they picked people who look and sound the same” phone conversation after she was rejected was overlaid with footage of the short, tall, fat, slim, white, brown, and black people who made the cut. Are they biased toward the pretty? Sure. But try telling me that Fantasia and Taylor Hicks sound and look like Kelly Clarkson and Ruben Studdard. C’mon. I dare you.
And check out this collection of the three worst auditions last night. You’ll laugh. You’ll cringe. You’ll wonder who’s been lying to these people.
The Art of Elysium 10th Anniversary Party Fashions
January 15, 2008 by testonJust when I was about to give up on any lovely gowns to gush over we get pictures from The Art of Elysium’s anniversary party that went on this weekend in LA. Among the stars to show were Heroes Ali Larter, Rachel Bilson, Joy Bryant, Ashley Olsen, Courtney Cox and rocker Lenny Kravitz.
The trend for the evening seemed to be slinky column dresses. Rachel Bilson looked angelic in a Christian Dior dress, while Joy Bryant was red hot in a ruffled Zac Posen number. After seeing her in distressed denim and tanks in action sequences it was especially nice to see Ali Larter in a wispy white J.Mendel dress. 65th Golden Globe Winners
January 14, 2008 by testonThe Golden Globes wrapped up yesterday with Atonement and Sweeney Todd being the big winners. Atonement won Best Dramatic Picture and Best Original Score, and Sweeney Todd won Best Musical or Comedy with Johnny Depp taking home Best Actor:Comedy or Musical prize. No Country for Old Men won two awards as well for Best Screenplay and Best Supporting Actor for Javier Bardem (although in my opinion and many others he was more of the lead than the supporting actor, stealing each scene with his menacing demeanor).
Only time will tell whether this years Globes with no red carpet and televised awards shows( reduced to an hour-long press conference) will hurt box office sales or fail to bring notoriety to lesser known Oscar hopefuls. We here at SeenON! were disappointed at the loss of the usual fanfare which prevented us from posting our intended fashion coverage. We will keep our fingers crossed that things are in tip-top shape for next year. In the meantime, check out the full list of winners- and remember to check SeenON! for all your entertainment updates.
The Hills: Lauren Conrad & Whitney Port to leave Teen Vogue
January 11, 2008 by testonWomen’s Wear Daily reported yesterday that MTV will be looking for another magazine partner for its hit series “The Hills” next season. Apparently Teen Vogue darlings Whitney and intern LC are moving on to greener pastures. Their last issue will be Teen Vogue’s March issue, where they helped the magazine on their Crillon Ball coverage ( the reason for their Paris trip at the end of Season 3).
This comes as no surprise to those who’ve watched a sneak peak at Whitney and LC in Paris wherein Whitney seems to be leaning towards leaving the fashion rag, and to the fans who’ve seen recent pictures of LC meeting with Brent Bolthouse from Brent Bolthouse Productions (Yes folks that’s the same office that Ms. Montag works at). All this adds up to possible juicy drama for next season and even more glammed up confrontations no doubt.
So be prepared to tune into MTV to watch the ladies Paris fun-and don’t forget to shop all your favorite looks and accessories from the show.
Prom Dress Blues
January 10, 2008 by teston
I’ve been waffling about my attitude toward Christian on Project Runway, as I wasn’t sure how he was going to come out in the editing wash. I have either bowed to the editors’ desires or finally saw enough last night. Either way, I have concluded he’s a fragile whiner. “The bottom of the dress is too short!” “Here, look at all of this fabric you have left.” “No, I’m doomed, I’m doomed.” Tim is a master of restraint for not pimp-slapping him right there.
As for other reactions I had last night, how about the surprise of seeing Kevin the usually competent go down in flames? Or Victorya winning with something I wouldn’t use as a lampshade, let alone see my daughter in for the fanciest night of her high school life? Oh, and who told anyone that miniskirts are acceptable for formal occasions? Sweet P nailed the concept of the prom dress. Long, elegant and just enough sex appeal to demonstrate the woman emerging from the girl in the dress. And she lost to sequins and a stick-figure body in a too-short skirt.
